There’s an interesting EDC knife on the way from the busy folks at Civivi. The Pragma offers users a compact blade, button lock deployment, and a couple of bonus features for good measure.
The Pragma does not really qualify as a multitool; rather, think of it as a knife first and foremost, seasoned with some light multifunctionality. The core of the experience here remains the blade, a 2.2-inch wharncliffe. It’s a nearly textbook rendition of the form, with an edge that runs straight out to a low but very usable and pointed tip. It’s opened with a thumb stud made from Nitro-V, a metallurgical sibling to AEB-L with rock solid performance characteristics across the board.
We’ve got a handle made from another reliable metal, aluminum. Even with the multifunctional backspacer element (discussed below) taken into account, the profile here is tried and true, familiar to anybody who has owned a folding knife made in the last 20 years. Less familiar to non-knife people, but no less intuitive, is the button lock, one of the favorite mechanisms over at Civivi HQ; a press of the button releases the blade for closure.
The stainless steel backspacer situated between the aluminum scales is where the additional features are found. You get a carabiner-bottle opener twofer here; the former provides the main carry method, as the Pragma does not come with a standard pocket clip. Civivi has made an actual carabiner, the Click, as well as the Polymorph, which combines a carabiner frame and a utility knife, but this is the first combo between a carabiner and a full-featured folder in their lineup.
Civivi says that the Pragma will be landing this month. It will be joined by at least one other new model, of which more anon.
