The latest batch of Jack Wolf Knives Benny’s Clip is landing today. This time around the releases includes an exclusive variation and the debut of a new, cost-conscious series from the modern traditional company.

Traditional knife historians will know from both the name and the design that the Benny’s Clip is Jack Wolf founder Ben Belkin’s tribute to the Lanny’s Clip, a famous 20th century pattern created by Tony Bose. Belkin says that, as a traditional knife fiend, the look of the Lanny’s Clip is what led him to create his own take on it. “It is the aesthetics of the design.  It is a jaw dropper and instantly recognizable!” Indeed, the Lanny’s Clip can claim what few other 20th century knives can, having entered into the traditional knife pantheon alongside much older patterns like the barlow or the congress.

“Compared to the original design, my interpretation has a broader blade and broader handle, but most of the DNA is left intact,” Belkin tells us. “The blade is designed for tougher work with its saber grind profile. In other words, the tip has more meat behind it and the full thickness spine adds a ton of structural rigidity,  all while being comfortable in the hand.” Belkin says the 3-inch, S90V blade can even be taken into the great outdoors, while still maintaining the sliceiness users expect from a modern EDC: “The primary bevel is hollow ground to a relatively thin dimension behind the edge, so it will also handle your EDC tasks with ease, especially compared to many modern folders on the market.”

As usual, this batch of Benny’s drops in a suite of different handle materials, including a Bounty Hunter CamoCarbon variant exclusive to KnivesShipFree; this material mixes whorls of red, black, yellow, and brown, and it’s paired with dark washed, tumbled blade and bolster that drive home the rugged side of the Benny’s nature. “I provide options and feedback, but in this case KSF made the call,” Belkin notes regarding his dealer collab pieces. “It came out great!”

Also worthy of note is the first-ever “Steel Series” Jack Wolf model, a configuration that aims for higher accessibility price-wise. “Featuring Steel bolsters and hardware, a 14C28N blade, Micarta scales and basic packaging, we are able to offer the exact same build quality for $100 less,” Belkin says. He also tells us that if the Steel Series Benny’s Clip does well, more models in that vein will follow. He also gave a tantalizing, albeit vague, hint of other things to come. “We have a lot of neat things in store,” Belkin hints, but went on to say that regarding hard details, “We will keep our cards close to the vest!”

All versions of the Benny’s Clip will be available today, Friday September 13th, at 2pm EST/11am Pacific.
