Guy Poggetti’s New Boker Collab is a Front Flipper Tanto

0

French custom maker Guy Poggetti is working once again with Boker on a production piece. It’s called the Sanjo, and it should be a treat for anybody looking for something in the neo-Japanese style.

As you may have guessed based on that “neo-Japanese” descriptor, the Sanjo features a tanto-style blade. All told, it follows quite faithfully in the true Japanese tanto style, with a smooth, curving transition between the primary and secondary edges. This profile slots very easily into a daily cutting role, and, at 3.39 inches in length, it’s the right size for EDC, too. A front flipper deployment is not only fidget friendly, it helps keep the Sanjo’s closed position profile very svelte indeed.

The front flipper is the only protrusion on this one in the closed position

The blade steel here is VG-10 a formula that, fittingly, hails from Japan. VG-10’s best quality may be its very high stain resistance (it was originally designed for use in horticultural tools), but it holds a worthy edge as well. In an every day carry knife, which must be ready to handle a spectrum of different chore types, especially one aiming at a price that won’t completely break the bank, VG-10 is a solid choice.

The Eastern aesthetic is continued full force on the handle; the Sanjo’s backward-curving, squarish profile echoes the grips on all sorts of historical Japanese swords. Of course, being a modern folding knife, it’s put together quite diferently, with stainless steel scales underneath handsome brown burlap Micarta scales. The knife is a liner lock and comes with a non-reversible, sculpted pocket clip; Boker lists the weight as 5.19 oz.

The release date on Boker’s European site is August 9th.
