Heckler & Koch recently announced a .22LR rimfire version of its classic HK G36 military rifle. Originally adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1997 and chambered for the 5.56 NATO rifle cartridge, the HK G36 has become an icon of modern military infantry rifles due to its range of features that were arguably ahead of their time.
For 2025, Heckler & Koch partnered with Umarex of Germany to develop this new rimfire rifle that is a true-to-scale version of the centerfire G36. HK USA is offering these rimfire carbines with standard-capacity magazines of either 10 or 20 rounds. With 18.125-inch-long barrels, .22 LR HK G36 carbines provide plenty of length to allow high velocity .22LR rimfire rounds to develop their full muzzle velocities. Due to the user friendly and affordable nature of the .22LR round, this semi-automatic carbine is suitable as both a sub-caliber training aid or a fun and recreational plinking firearm. Besides its light weight, it includes the same skeletonized folding stock found in the original G36 and includes an elevated Picatinny base to easily mount an optic.
