Ruger and Magpul have just collaborated to bring about the RXM, a new 9mm Glock-like pistol with a ton of innovative features.
What’s in a name? When it comes to the RXM, it means Ruger x Magpul, the companies that combined their efforts and specialties to create this new 9mm pistol. At first glance, it may seem like just another Glock clone, but the RXM is loaded with features that make it anything but.
As for Magpul’s role in the RXM, it’s no surprise that it’s the big polymer part—the frame. Magpul calls it the Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG), and it was designed to accept a removable stainless steel Fire Control Insert (FCI). This means that as soon as Magpul starts releasing other sizes and styles of grip frame you’ll be able to interchange parts at will. The initial release of the RXM features a gray Glock 19-size frame that features Magpul’s ¾-scale TSP texturing, textured indexing thumb pads, a low-profile flared magwell, an undercut trigger guard, a beaver tail, a mag release scallop and an accessory rail.
As for the slide, 4-inch barrel, FCI and other components of the RXM, that’s where Ruger comes in. The slide has a black FNC nitride finish, is optics-ready (RMR, Delta Point Pro and RMSc footprints for direct-mount compatibility) and has steel co-witness-height sights with a tritium front night sight. The slide also features forward cocking serrations and a flat-faced trigger. Given the inherent modularity of the RXM due to its removable FCI, Ruger and Magpul encourage users to customize and modify their pistols in whichever way suits them best. To make that as easy as possible, the RXM is compatible with most parts, accessories, holsters and magazines designed for Gen 3 Glocks. Speaking of mags, each RXM ships with two 15-round Magpul PMAG GL9 magazines (or two 10-round PMAGs for states with capacity restrictions).
Duane Liptak, Executive Vice President of Magpul, said this about the new pistol:
Magpul and Ruger are two of the most renowned brands in the firearms space, with each bringing a unique perspective to this project: Ruger, with its skill at making high-quality guns at very accessible prices, and Magpul, with its performance-improvement-focused accessories. This collaboration has allowed both companies to flex their creative muscles, resulting in a firearm that provides superior features, function, and value.
The Ruger RXM has an MSRP of $499, but they’re already hitting store shelves at about $100 less than that.
